This week's focus
No focus set yet
- A captain sets this week's three rules here.

Quick reminders
- Shifts of 60–90 seconds. Tired legs play passive.
- Talk: "man on," "time," "wheel," "switch."
- One hand on your stick when you don't have the puck.
- Full system and diagram: the System tab.

How we play
Our system
Everyone has one job in each zone. We defend with angles and sticks, never hits.
Our zone: one job each
- Puck switches sides? The D tag off: the new strong-side D takes pressure and the other slides to the net. Wingers swap the same way.
- See his numbers, close fast. See his logo, contain. Keep your stick in his passing lane.
- Wingers don't shadow the point. That leaves a 3-on-3 down low. Let them pass it around the outside. Every pass is a chance for them to mess up.
Getting it out
- Wingers are the outlet: on the wall at the hash marks, facing the play.
- Shoulder-check before the puck reaches you.
- Time and space? Skate it or make the short pass to the wall.
- Read their point man. He sits back: rim it hard. He pinches down the wall: chip it off the glass, or reverse it behind the net to the side he left.
- Never clear blind through the slot. A blocked clear there is a shot on our goalie.
- Center comes low as the short option through the middle.
Tools anyone can use
- Blade mirroring: one hand on the stick, blade flat near his blade, follow it. Passes and shots to the middle hit your stick.
- Defend the middle first: stay inside the dots and steer him outside.
- Steer him to his backhand, unless that means steering him into the middle.
- Watch his chest, not the puck.
- No-check: angles and sticks. No shoves at the net. A penalty kill makes everything harder.
Their zone: attack with speed
Past our blue line, forwards play F1, F2, F3, not left, center, right. Attack in the first 30 seconds before they regroup.
| Role | On the entry | On the forecheck |
|---|---|---|
| F1 | Carries it in, or dumps it to a corner and chases right away | Skate hard at the carrier, stick on his. Force a bad pass |
| F2 | Drives straight to the net | Strong side, above their winger. Take away the wall |
| F3 | Fills the high slot | Stays high. Jumps the D-to-D pass, covers a pinching D |
| D | Keeps pucks in at the line | Pinch only when F3 is high |
- Shoot early, shoot low. Wrist shots, so the net-front guy isn't eating slappers.
- Screen the goalie: right in front of him, outside the crease, facing the shooter, stick down for a tip.
- Keep one player above the puck so a turnover isn't a breakaway.
